The Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company was originated in November of 1966. We serve the following townships in rural Pennsylvania:  Dublin, Taylor, Wells, and parts of Licking Creek in Fulton County; and part of Springfield Township, Huntingdon County.  We also service approximately 27 miles of the Pennsylvania Turnpike for fire, accidents, and medical emergencies.  We supply mutual aid to the other two fire companies in Fulton County (Needmore and McConnellsburg) and also to companies in Franklin, Huntingdon, and Bedford Counties.

In the beginning, all emergency calls were answered in private homes by members and their wives who volunteered to man the phones.  Members had phone lists of people who responded to the calls, and when a call came in, the volunteers got busy on the telephones, with wives going through the call lists telling the members what the type and location of the incident was.  Eventually we received a house siren through the Department of Civil Defense and radios for dispatch.  Over the years, a local garage and the Fulton County Medical Center were also added to the list of call takers and dispatchers.  In March of 2000, after re-addressing the County, Fulton County implemented a full 911 call taking and dispatching system.  Because Fulton County is a small rural county, the Commissioners contracted with Cumberland County to have them perform all call taking and dispatching.  Fulton County maintains a backup dispatch center located at the Emergency Management/911 office and has a number of dedicated volunteers who have become certified to perform dispatching on a backup basis.
